A Lamp to Your Path

The last few weeks, we’ve been considering the paths and and choices we make.  Wisdom guards our path and keeps us walking in the right direction (Wisdom for Your Path from Proverbs).  Honoring God in the “small” daily decisions prepares our hearts for making bigger decisions in life (Which way to go?).  And when we are in the maze of life, we can ask some smart questions to guide our bigger decisions (Navigating Life’s Maze).

What is your path like right now?  This week, I want to invite you to set aside a few minutes to spend some quiet time with God.  He is the Lamp that shines light on our path.  Spending time with Him keeps our hearts close to Him, reminds us to trust Him, and helps us see our next steps clearly.  I encourage you to find yourself a comfortable, quiet place to spend a little time with Jesus.

“For you are my lamp, O Lord,
and my God lightens my darkness.” ~II Samuel 22:29 (ESV)

As we share our hearts with God in this moment, we open our lives for Him to lead us along our path.  I’m sharing three sets of verses about journeying with God.  I encourage you to read them slowly and prayerfully, maybe more than once through.  Talk with God about any words or phrases that stand out.  After each passage there are ideas to invite you into responsive prayer.  You don’t need to use all of them; simply respond to the verses or prayers that resonate with your heart!

“When I thought, “My foot slips,”
your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.
When the cares of my heart are many,
your consolations cheer my soul.” ~Psalm 94:18-19 (ESV)

Lord, You are right here with me, holding my hand, helping me stay up, and loving me.  I fear I might fall when _______________________.  Some cares on my heart include _______________________.

“Cast your burden on the Lord,
    and he will sustain you;
he will never permit
the righteous to be moved.” ~Psalm 55:22

Thank You for sustaining me, Lord!  I feel burdened by _______________________.  I give You this burden and ask for Your help.  I want to keep my eyes on You.  You can help me walk steadily forward on the path You have for me.

“For you are my lamp, O Lord,
and my God lightens my darkness.

For who is God, but the Lord?
And who is a rock, except our God?
This God is my strong refuge
and has made my way blameless.

You gave a wide place for my steps under me,
    and my feet did not slip…”  ~II Samuel 22: 29, 32-33, 37

God, You are my Light and my Lamp in the darkness.  Some ways I have experienced this include _______________________.  I feel confused or uncertain about _______________________.  I will trust You with this!  You are my Rock, my steady protection and source of comfort.  You are stable and constant even if other things aren’t.  Please help me walk blamelessly.  Lead me into places where I experience Your blessing and am a blessing to others.  Your light shines on my path and I see these next steps to take:  _______________________.
