Receive Love, Give Love

The secret to living and loving well is receiving love from God.

When we love on our own, at best the love we show is mingled with needing something for ourselves out of it, too.

But as we grow in our relationship with Jesus, experiencing more fully God’s love for us, we become free…free to love unconditionally! To GIVE the other person love. Because God’s love satisfies us.

We’re free from secretly hoping to RECEIVE some thing we want from people. Like being liked. Or getting our way. Or the other person reciprocating.

“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love…We love because he first loved us.” 1 John 4:16, 19, ESV

Here’s what is reminding me to receive God’s love daily:

I jotted a prayer and the above verses on an index card. As I begin my morning quiet time I sit a moment and just receive God’s love, and ask Him to help me overflow with love for others.

How do you receive God’s love? Through music? Quiet reflection? Meditating on a verse? Please share!

If you’re not doing something else, I invite you to find an index card, copy mine, and put it somewhere you’ll see it!
