In Elgin, Iowa, local farmers create an amazing corn maze each fall. The photo below shows the dairy theme they designed the year we visited there. Some ways were dead-ends or led us in a circle. And some areas had more than one way through. The corn was tall, and once we were in the maze we couldn’t see the beginning or the end. After experiencing our share of dead-ends and circling back, it was rewarding to make our way out!
I’m sharing a picture of the most confusing sign I think I’ve ever seen! It directs local traffic from a freeway off-ramp into roundabouts on both the east and west sides of the freeway. This sign reminds me of the confusion we often feel about decisions in life. “Which of these four jobs should I pursue? Or none of them?” “Should I marry this person?” “Be involved in this ministry?” “Move?” “Or something else that I don’t know of and haven’t thought of yet?!”
What is the path ahead of you like? Maybe it seems difficult or like the destination is unknown. Or maybe it feels familiar and well worn, like you are trudging along the same old lane. While none of us is in control of the things that lie across the path ahead of us, trusting in God and living wisely will guide our steps and determine our destination.
Love sees people and life honestly, and engages in constructive and beautiful ways that make a difference. This difference impacts both the people living out of love, and all the people their lives touch.
I use the word “beauty” broadly, to include interactions, kind gestures, thoughtful details and plans, details that combine to create an hour or day … any sort of thing we can do in a creative and beautiful way! Our choices to pursue beauty and goodness make all the difference in who we become and how we live out our days.
