Our Closest Relationships {Home, Part 4}

{Home is the starting place for lived-out-love, a place where the needs of the whole person are cared for.  This post explores relational care within our home.}

Our homes are like classrooms for learning to love well, in the context of our closest relationships. Our families of origin play a significant role in shaping how we relate with people. As we go through life, we continue to learn and grow as well!  We can thoughtfully learn from our mistakes, from other people, and from helpful books.  We have the ability to make choices so we continue to grow.  If we have children at home, this is where they learn social skills and can grow a heart of love toward others that is natural to them.

Our Home, Haven {Home, Part 3}

{Home is the starting place for lived-out-love, a place where the needs of the whole person are cared for.  This post explores meeting emotional needs.}

I’ve named our home Haven.  It’s a safe place we return to from daily life to find rest and mutual care.  It’s a haven where we can be authentic with our real selves and emotions.  We can make choices to create a trusting and safe environment in our homes.

Meeting our basic needs with care {Home, Part 2}

{Home is the starting place for lived-out-love, a place where the needs of the whole person are cared for. This post addresses meeting physical needs.}

When I was a child, my favorite book from the library was The Maggie B., by Irene Hass.  It’s a delightful story about a girl who wished she had her own ship.  One night, in her dreams, her wish comes true in a lovely adventure with her little brother.

Sunlight & Clouds

I have been noticing the clouds, and how they reflect the light of the sun.  We use sunny days and blue skies as an analogy for happiness.  But, it is when the sunlight catches the clouds that we can actually see the play of its brightness.  It is clouds that make for gorgeous sunrises and sunsets.  Yet, cloudy days are an analogy for sadness.IMG_20170908_080232336
