I’ve discovered that I thoroughly enjoy genealogy. The story of it all pulls me in. I imagine these people from the past, some of whose stories I’ve heard. For others I can only piece together a sketch of their lives from historical documents.

I’ve discovered that I thoroughly enjoy genealogy. The story of it all pulls me in. I imagine these people from the past, some of whose stories I’ve heard. For others I can only piece together a sketch of their lives from historical documents.

The lights are red in every lane. No one is moving. There is no choice but to wait. We’d prefer to keep hitting green lights, to keep moving forward and get where we want to go.
But it’s not all about us. There are other people, in other lanes, getting their green lights while we sit at a red light. There is a practical plan with traffic lights; we understand the pattern that promises our lane will get a turn to go.
Recently I did a marathon of errands. I usually have a list of errands to do in a trip, so I can be more efficient. As I drove down the road and stopped into Target, a variety of thankfulnesses came to mind: “Thank You for the errands I can get done. Thank You I can walk. Thank You for money to buy groceries. Thank You for clean water.” These are all little, everyday things in my life. But they would not be so little if I didn’t have them! With this burst of thankfulness came a burst of energy. My day is full of good gifts! 
God is the Rock of my life. This is a practical attitude that leads to choices that impact who I am and how I live. When I’m confused and have questions in life, I ask Him for perspective. When I am tired and down, I draw near to Him for shelter.
